Like many high school sports fans, I truly love taking the time to analyze a player’s games through comparisons, especially when watching a schools future up and coming sports star. Rankin Red Devils very own Anna Sharp is an upcoming athlete that I have seen in action and cant wait to see what her future in sports holds for this next year.
JJSS: What sport or sports do you play?
Anna Sharp: I play basketball and run track.
JJSS: When did you first become interested in sports?
Anna Sharp: I've always loved sports, I am interested in sports because its a great way to have fun and stay fit.
JJSS: What did you like most about this past year's team?
Anna Sharp: I loved how we encouraged each other to keep going and work hard; during our mile relay our team would stand near the last 100 meters and chant our team mates on to keep going. I also liked how we treated each other like a sister, like a close knit family.
JJSS: What did you like least?
Anna Sharp: I would have to say it was the extreme heat and the coldness of track meets, also the long bus rides to and from our basketball games and track meets.
JJSS: How much time do you spend training and practicing?
Anna Sharp: We train during our one hour long athletics period, and during practice, which could time varies from being long or short.
JJSS: Tell me one or two things you do in training that directly contributes to your success:
Anna Sharp: 1. During track I'd practice and practice on high jump, hurdles, and running events. 2. During basketball I'd practice on shooting, ball handling, and passing. Practicing always helped me in each sport I participated in.
JJSS: Do you think your skill level improved?
Anna Sharp: Yes, a bunch!
JJSS: Do you think your physical condition was sufficient?
Anna Sharp: During the beginning of each season, not really, as the seasons were progressing, yes.
JJSS: What has been the highlight of playing sports for you?
Anna Sharp: You know I wasn't very confident in myself being put in the hurdles, I thought I was not going to have a good year, but during the district track meet, I thought to myself, just keep the other girls behind you and you'll do fine. It worked, in the 300 m hurdles I came out with victory getting third place, I was so proud of myself, the coaches were proud of me, I also broke my time, so now I've got a personal record.
JJSS: What do you believe all good coaches have in common?
Anna Sharp: That they can treat everyone with the respect they deserve and not putting people down and just being there for the team and athletes.
JJSS: Who was your favorite coach and why?
Anna Sharp: I have two favorites, Coach Cline, and Mrs. Coach Potts, Coach Cline is my favorite because he yelled at us but it wasn't to yell negatively anything he said came out positive, it influenced me to be the best I could and play the best that I could, and he's just an awesome coach! The next would be Coach Potts, she seems like she knows what she's doing when it comes to basketball and anything in fact, and she's just awesome too.
JJSS: How did the coaches help the team the most?
Anna Sharp: Coaches that were involved in the sports helped the team practice practice practice on every single track event, and basketball fundamentals, they truly influenced me to just go out and have fun, they always were there for us. I love our coaches for always helping us on the things we had trouble most on.
JJSS: What could the coaches have done better?
Anna Sharp: In my opinion, nothing really, we had a really successful year in all sports we participated in.
JJSS: Were you satisfied with the outcome of this season?
Anna Sharp: Yes very satisfied, we were awesome!
JJSS: What are your personal goals for next year?
Anna Sharp: To be successful in all sports that I play, and to be even better than I was last year.
JJSS: What are your personal goals for your future in these sports?
Anna Sharp: You know, I've never really thought about that, I guess to play college basketball.
I would like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to be interviewed by you! It's really great!
JJSS: Anna, thank you for taking the time to interview with with me for the Jingo Jango Sports Show, we are wishing you all the very best! We will be looking forward to see how your next season progresses!
